Student Beach Clean-up! Paul Revere Middle School, March 28, 2009

6th grade students from Paul Revere Middle School (Brentwood, CA), completed community service hours by participating in a F.I.N.SEA Beach Cleanup near Santa Monica Pier. Enthusiasm was evident as they combed the beach, searching for common pollutants such as plastic bags, bottlecaps, straws, cigarrette butts, and soda cans. The students learned about the massive effect of pollution on the marine environment and what they can do to help reduce their local impact.

"At first I didn't think I would really like cleaning up the beach and that it would be boring, but I ended up feeling like I did something really important to help our oceans and that made it really fun!"
- Brandon Mutch, 12

The 1st inaugural Ocean Kids event!, November 22, 2008
Read about Ocean Kids in The Miami Herald!
F.I.N.SEA Foundation and the University of Miami Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science hosted a day of experiential learning and adventure for 100 inner-city kids. The 3rd and 4th graders from Holmes and Dunbar Elementary spent the afternoon exploring the exciting world of marine science and conservation via hands-on learning stations (e.g. “Touchable Tidals”, “The Marine World Magnified”, and “Race for Recycling”). The entire event took place on the University of Miami Coral Gables Campus, and over 100, compassionate undergraduates acted as ocean ambassadors, sharing their knowledge and passion for the marine environment with children from underserved Miami communities. F.I.N.SEA Foundation hosted a day of dolphin swims, experiential classes, labs, a touch tank tour, games, and a BBQ lunch at Dolphins Plus in Key Largo, Florida for 17 students from Odyssey Middle School. Each student was presented with a certificate of participation, a F.I.N.SEA t-shirt, and an 8x10" photo to commemorate their F.I.N.SEA marine science experience. This event brought the ocean to the students of South Florida, and thereby, created a perspective and vision for conservation, inspiration, and joy.

“Clean our Beach, Clean your Soul” with Lululemon athletica and Kia Miller, August 18th, 2008
The Los Angeles community joined forces for a day of cleaning up the beach and cleansing our souls with F.I.N.SEA Foundation and Lululemon Athletica. Our team of “Green Warriors” charged the Santa Monica sand, biodegradable trash bags in hand, on a mission to beautify the beach during this scavenger hunt clean-up challenge! Prizes were awarded for most trash collected, most unusual item found on the beach, etc. Organic food & beverages, music, surprise gifts and yoga led by Kia Miller complimented this special day. This event provided the forum necessary to see first-hand the negative impacts of coastal pollution and encouraged discussion of the actions each of us can take to promote environmental conservation in both our local and global community.
